Lectures will be held daily in the morning and afternoon before the practical exercises. The program of scientific sessions will only be available at the beginning of 2012.
The tentative schedule of practical exercises is given on this homepage. Your individual place to work for practical exercises will depend on whether you are in Group A or Group C.
Classification whether a participant is placed in Group A (basic skills course) or in Group C (intermediate skills course) will be made according to the indication of expected experience in laparoscopic surgery at the beginning of the course. Therefore, please assure that your indication of surgical experience is correctly filled in.
Please note: A change of the group at the course in Davos will not be possible.
Because of increasing time constraints, costs and ethical considerations, the modern operating room is not the ideal learning environment. In addition, surgical procedures have become more complex requiring surgeons to learn new skills quickly without interfering with the operating room efficiency or jeopardizing the patients’ care. Besides the practical exercises the Virtuel Reality Trainers get more and more an important factor in surgery. The Faculty therefore has integrated Virtuel Reality in the GI-Course during the whole week. Participants have to join the VR-exercises as they are scheduled during the week.
Surgical instruments for the open and laparoscopic practical exercises will be available from B. Braun / Aesculap for each working place (1 set for each 2 participants only).
Participants with odd registration numbers will be invited to pick up 1 set when registering at the beginning of the course and well before the first practical exercises on Saturday and to return it after the final assessment on Friday. A credit card guarantee or a cash deposit, which will be returned upon return of the complete set, has to be provided.
Participants who wish to use their own instruments may of course also bring the same along to Davos which should include the following:
- 1 large needle holder (approx. 20 cm)
- 1 short needle holder (approx. 12 cm)
- 1 pair of fine long forceps (non-toothed)
- 1 pair of short forceps
- 1 pair of dissecting scissors
- 1 pair of straight-stitch cutting scissors
- 10 fine artery forceps (mosquitos)
Mölnlycke Health Care AG will provide surgical gloves for the practical exercises. Powder-free or latex-free gloves will also be available from Mölnlycke at their exhibition booth. Each individual user is requested to arrange special requirements at the Mölnlycke exhibition booth.
Certificates will only be available at the end of the course on Friday at the course secretariat. All participants, including instructors must hand in their personal evaluation sheets in exchange for the diplomas.
In order to meet the requirements to obtain tax exemption each course participant will receive a personal control form at the beginning of the course. It is the responsibility of each participant to have this form signed daily by the responsible table instructor immediately after the session and to get it confirmed daily by the course secretariat. Confirmations after the course are not possible.
Access to internet is provided in the entrance area at the Convention Center in Davos during the regular office hours of the course. The use of these facilities outside the office hours is only possible during afternoon break and after arrangement with the Course Secretariat.
